More Design Work

Here are some further designs for Mike Sarrao. We will be putting together a 10 page mini-comic pitch for this storyline, much like the Unmasked project we are currently wrapping up. I had alot of fun on Unmasked and it is a great story but I have to admit I am hugely psyched about this project. More info and plenty more art to come! Each and every character is (C) Michael Sarrao 2008.

Spirit

Threw together a Spirit pin-up in my free time. One of my all time favorite characters and probably my favorite comic book ever.

New Project, New designs

Working on yet another project with Mike Sarrao (the man is the new house of ideas) so here are the first two preliminary designs for the project.

Pin-Up Alert!

Here is a pin-up I did recently for my friend Rob Reilly's new book, Imaginary Friends: SFU, coming soon from Viper comics. I've seen some of the pages and it is a really fun, stylized book. Rob will be coloring this final peice himself, can't wait to see it!

Support Your Troops!

Here is a sketch I did today for my Fiance's cousin who is serving over in Iraq. We put together a care package for him so I decided to spread a little cheer and added this in. To all the troops over seas right now: Come home safe, you do us proud!

JIM IS BACK!

Page 1 of Zombie Sama! 2. It has been a little over 2 years since I have drawn a new Zombie Sama! page. I really enjoyed going back to the first character I ever drew professionally. I always had alot of fun with this book and I absolutely can't wait to draw this second go around. In fact, I was so impatient that I started drawing this page without even finishing the script for the first issue. I am a little more than halfway done writing issue 1 of what I hope can be a 3 issue mini series. I think for the time being I am going to have to put the drawing for this book on hold and focus on the writing. I am swamped with other projects right now that need priority. But do not fear: YOJIMBO IS BACK!

MICE TEMPLAR PIN-UP COLORED!

Here is my pin-up for Mike Avon Oeming's and Bryan Glass' monthly series Mice Templar, colored by the ever impressive Val Staples. ENJOY!

Pencils Vs. Inks

Here is page 2 of Unmasked. First we have my pencils for the page, which as you can see are very limited. I usually rough in the drawing with the pencils and then finish the drawing with the ink brush and/or ink pen.

Unmasked Page 1

Mike Sarrao and I are moving ahead in the project with a ten to twelve page mini-comic of his teleplay idea, Unmasked. Future colors will be provided by Val Page. Unmasked and all related characters are (c) Michael Sarrao 2008.

Zombie Sama! Sketchbook cont'd

Did alot of sketching this weekend apparently. Here are a couple of designs for Jim and Suzy, our two love birds from Zombie Sama! and the upcoming sequel!

Weekend Sketchbook

Here are some sketches I threw together over the weekend. first up we have some pencil and ink Buffy sketches. Next the main character from my secret project.

Original pages!

Here are pages 5&6 of the new book. It is currently being pitched but I couldn't wait around any longer so I started on the remaining pages. Enjoy!

Mice Templar Pin-up!

Here is a Mice Templar pin-up for my buddy Mike's book. Brush and pen marker. I had a lot of fun with these mice, I'm not going to lie. The owl proved to be troublesome, im not used to drawing animals but I think it came out ok. Color version coming soon.

UNMASKED cover!

Here is the cover design for Michael Sarrao's pitch. Hopefully we will be seeing a color version shortly.

Blueline Pro Auction for ACS

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Blue Line Pro will be holding an Ebay auction to raise money for the American Cancer Society. They will be auctioning off sketchcards from many different artists throughout the industry, including yours truly. In fact, my sketch card, along with a card done by my buddy Rob Reilly appeared in the advertisement for the auction in the latest edition of Sketch Magazine. Here are the the two cards I submitted. The auction begins March 8th at 5pm. I will keep you posted and don't forget to stop by Ebay and check it out, it is for a good cause!

COLOR MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER!

Here are a couples of pages fully colored from the "secret project". This just looks bad ass! I am so impressed with these colors provided by Val Staples (Criminal, Masters of the Universe). ENJOY!

Zombie Sama 2 Sketchbook

Here are some doodles from my sketchbook for Zombie Sama 2! Working on a new look for Jim. He is a few years older now and a little more sleak. Still working on a new, even more sexy look for his damsel in distress, Suzy.

Also trying to add a little more detail to the zombies now.

Design work finished

Sorry I havent been posting, the Flu struck and it struck hard! But I am back with a few new designs for Mike Sarrao and his kick ass story Unmasked.

Design Work pt 2

I've begun the a new project with Michael Sarrao. We had so much fun we are doing it again. Here are the first set of character designs. Again, all characters are (C) Michael Sarrao2008

random panel

Here is a random panel from my latest project. We are in the preliminary stages of the book right now (putting together a full color, lettered, pitch for a studio that will get us a page rate). More about the book will be divulged as soon as it gets picked up by someone so fingers crossed!

Superman came to me in a dream the other night...

strangest thing happened to me over the weekend. I had a wild dream and in that dream i came up with an unbelievable retelling of the Superman mythos. Don't ask me whyyy I dreamt that. I haven't even picked up a superman book or watched a superman film/cartoon/tv show in months. I've actually been spending my time working on my own 'secret' projects and all of my reading is dedicated to my Y:The Last Man marathon. But there he was, the man of steel, my favorite comic book character (next to spidey), completely different yet still comfortably familiar, invading my dreams. For a long time now I have wanted to develop an original Superman story, which is insanely difficult (70 years worth of storytelling makes it so) and I was never really happy with anything I came up with (or read from others or watched on the big screen for that matter). That is, until this crazy dream. The next morning I flew out of bed and ran to the computer and started a three day long process of writing an outline for this tale. My Fiance definitely thinks I am insane and is probably wondering why I'm dreaming about Superman instead of her but this was an epiphany! I finally had my superman story and I wrote it subconsciously! Now, I wish I could tell you all about this kick ass story but unfortunately I have to keep it under wraps until I can think of a way to get it seen by DC (its a long shot but hey, one day right?). Until then I leave you with some sketches I did over those three days that were also spawned from the dream. Enjoy!

Design Project Done!

The freelance design project for Mike Sarrao, a kick ass screenwriter, is finally done. Mike and I will be working again on designs for another screen project of his. For now though, here is the final result for this project.

Character sketches

Here are some headshots and quick designs for characters that will be appearing in a new project I am working on. I promise as soon as it gets picked up (cross your fingers and toes everyone) I will divulge more information and tons of art.

Oeming's bday

Today is Mike Oeming's bday so here is a quick sketch I threw together for him as a gift. (Im a cartoonist, can't afford a real gift)
